About .09 acres per year.
but how did you solve
First subtract 1918 from 2001 to find the years, which is 83, divide 8 acres by 83 to find 0.09 acres per year. Understood?
the next part of the question is Use your answer to write a linear equation that gives the acreage A of this glacier t years past 1918. A=
Um I think it would be y=9-(.09x), where y is ice area and x=years

If I divide 89 into 9 it does not equal .09
Decrease of 8 acres over 83 years = 0.0963855 acres/year, assuming linearity.
