Can someone help me solve this problem? A farmer counts his flock of chickens. He has five red chickens, 17 white chickens, three black chickens, and one spotted chicken in his flock. What is the percentage of white chickens in the flock? (Enter numeric value only)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I keep on getting 69, but thats not one of the answer choices..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(17/(5+17+3+1))*100

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not 69.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok 65, but how did you came up with the 17/ and the x100?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17 white chickens over the total of all chickens he has. To find the percentage, you must multiply by 100%.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you kind of understand? :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok.. yes.. kinda.. =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

100% is also because all the chickens added together=100%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, got it, thanks a lot!

:) You're welcome!
