How would you use calorimetry to find if an object was pure gold or not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, if you mean strictly calorimetry, you could measure the specific heat of your sample. Gold has a pretty low heat capacity. But heat capacity isn't very specific to a particular element or compound, so this is actually a pretty dumb way to try to identify gold. You'd be much better measuring its chemical or electronic properties, which are unique to gold. Even measuring its melting point would be a better test.
