Here, let's start with proper nouns. Let me show you two kinds of nouns A COMMON noun is a person, place, or thing. A PROPER noun is a CAPITALIZED NAME that you give to a person, place, or thing. Let me show you some examples of common nouns, and their proper nouns..... Common noun: girl Proper noun: Alyssa Common noun: state Proper noun: California Common noun: store Proper noun: Wal-Mart So you see? A common noun is just a person, place, or thing. A proper noun is a SPECIFIC, often CAPITALIZED name, for that person, place, or thing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Diamante poems are poems shaped like diamonds. ("Diamante" is Spanish for "diamond.") And they're very descriptive poems. Here are some examples: http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/interactives/diamante/ You see, at the top of the diamond, you put one word. Just one. And then, you see, as you get to the middle of the diamond, you write words that describe the very first word. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If the setting of the story is New York City, the backdrop (background) might be a city skyline, because New York City is a city! Simple, right? Do you know what a city skyline is? Here's a picture: http://d2f29brjr0xbt3.cloudfront.net/270_skyline/skylinenycatnight.jpg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And, finally, let me tell you about the THREE basic kinds of conflict. 1. Man vs. Man 2. Man vs. Nature 3. Man vs. Himself MAN vs. MAN is where a character is pitted against another character. MAN vs. NATURE is where a character is pitted against an animal, or nature. MAN vs. HIMSELF is where a character struggles against himself, like something on his mind. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I hope this information helps you. But if you still have any questions, please ask!
