we immerse a ball of radius 9 cm in a cylinder of radius 9 cm (also) filled with water.The ball rests at the bottom of cylinder and the water covers it exactly. What was the height of water in the cylinder. please reply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The current height of the water is 18cm, so the volume of water + sphere is (18cm)(9cm)^2*pi. Subtract the volume of the sphere (4/3*pi*r^3) to find the volume of the water and from there find the height of that water in the cylinder.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Volume of cylinder = pi*r^2*h --> height = volume/(pi*r^2).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the height was 18 or waht

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18cm was the height of the water with the sphere in the cylinder. I think it's asking for the height of the water without the sphere in there.
