The yearly attendance at a local movie theater is 56,000 and grows continuously at a rate of 4.2% each year. What is the approximate attendance at the movie theater in nine years?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.2% of 56, 000 =2352 56,000 + 2352 =56,2352 2nd year: 23618.784 and so on and so on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So multiply 2352 by 9 years?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Got it thanks! (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

get the 4.2% of each year with the extra of the other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To find the third year, find 4.2% of 23, 618.784

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I multiplied each year by 4.2%, giving me the 2352 each year, so I multiplied that by 9 years.. giving me 21,168, which I added to the 52,000 So the total for 9 years would be 77,168?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Although after a year the number is not 52 000 anymore! It's 54,352 that means that after, the numbers will be different again!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I made by arithmetical progression. (56.000, 58.352, 60.802,788, ...) Ninth term =\[56000*1,042^{8}\] Ninth term = approx 77.827
