Choose the graph which matches the following system of equations. x – 3y = –12 2x – y = 1

To tackle this problem, first try rewriting the 2 equations in slope intercept form (remember, y=mx+b). Remember b is the y intercept, which means, the y value when x=0, and that m is the slope, and is vertical change/horizontal change.

To get you started, take a look at the 2nd equation. 2x-y=1. Add y to both sides, and subtract 1 from both sides. Now it is in slope intercept form. y=2x-1. What is the slope, and what is the y intercept?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The slope is 2, and the y-intercept is -1.

I'm just having trouble with the first equation, getting it into slope intercept form.

x – 3y = –12 3y = x+12 y = x/3+4

thanks muchos
