How come General Custer's men were slaughtered at the Little Bighorn?

General Custer was something of an overconfident leader. Searching for signs of Native Americans, his scouts warned him that they had discovered a vast encampment, but Custer thought his own scouts were exaggerating how large it was and immediately made plans to attack. Unfortunately, he found out that his scouts were right after all, and soon thousands of warriors surrounded and wiped out the few hundred men he had with him on Little Bighorn.
