whats the difference between diatomic and poly-atomic molecules. with examples please

sam (.sam.):

Diatomic molecules are atoms that bond to their \(same\) element, some of the diatomic molecules are \(Br_2,~Cl_2,~I_2,~N_2,~H_2,~O_2,~F_2\) . Their net charge is zero for the entire molecule. As for polyatomic ions, Such as \( H_3O^+,~OH^-,~HCO_3^-,~SO_4^{2-}\), Their net charge is not zero, therefore, they are ready to bond with some other cations.
