OpenStudy (wwe123):
their are two unknown variable x &I ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
3|2x + 4| – 1 = 11
OpenStudy (anonymous):
sorry i typed it wrong

@falkqwer2011 first add 1 and then divide both sides by 3.......tell me what u get.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
4?
OpenStudy (wwe123):
6x +4-1=11
6x+3=11
6x=11-3
6x= 8
x=6/8
x=3/4
hartnn (hartnn):
4 is your right side.
u have |2x+4| on left side, isn't it ?
so your equation now is
|2x+4|=4.
do u know how to proceed further ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
sorry i dont

ok, let me tell u then.
if |x|=a, then x=a OR x=-a.
so here
|2x+4|=4 gives
(2x+4)=4 OR (2x+4)=-4
now can u solve these two easy equations and tell me the 2 values of x u get ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and 0
hartnn (hartnn):
thats correct!
so u have solved it.
the solution of 3|2x+4|-1=11
is
0 OR -4.
(be careful, write OR and not AND)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok thx so much :D
