Please help me with this math problem! Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it that there are now solutions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this your answer after the equal assign? if not, then you need to factor the denominator of the equal fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if i factor, i get (x+2)(x+4). but when i complete it using that it doesnt work out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the idea here is to get the same denominator, which going to be (x+2)(x+4). now look at the first fraction it has (x+2) as the denominator, and missing (x+4) , so what you have to do is multiply the numerator by (x+4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i would get 2(x+4) for the first part?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok you would get 2x+8 after you distribute right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good, now look at the second fraction's nominator what is it missing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

denominator :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the second part i got 1(x+2) or x+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes:D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the answer after the = sign i am stuck, does it just end up being 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now put all together to get 2x+8 + x+2= 4 and then combine like term and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, that helps so much! i got -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x+10=4 3x=-6 x=-2 does this look right?
