Quite the contrary. The Articles of Confederation reflected Americans' distrust of a strong central government like the one they had rebelled against. The states retained significant power. The national legislature was designed to reflect the will of the states. No national executive or judiciary could encroach on local authority. Despite this, many in Congress thought that the draft constitution gave too much power to the central government.
