My teacher told us we have an idiom quiz, how should I study for that? Can someone like explain what an idiom is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An idiom is a figure of speech. It's basically something that's not meant to be taken literally. For example (and this is an American idiom): "I could eat a horse!" See, it doesn't REALLY mean I could eat a horse. It just means that I'm really hungry! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Every culture has its own idioms. In America, you could say, "I could eat a horse," and people would know what you mean. But if you go to Spain and say, "I could eat a horse," then you sound pretty weird. So, I get the feeling that there's gotta be some sort of list of Spanish-language idioms that you've been talking about, in class. Would you know anything about that?

thank you, i understand what it is now. My teacher said I have an idiom quiz, how should I study? Last class she gave us a list of words like you said with the meanings and conjugated.

Oh okay, so you have a list of spanish idioms? Then it's all a matter of memorizing it, right? I mean, you could use flashcards, where you write the Spanish idiom on one side, and on the other side, you write the literal translation and the figurative meaning (in English).
