can you check my work just to see i'm right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A yardstick measures 1/4 by 3 by 36 inches. How many yard sticks will fit in a box 3 inches wide and 36 inches high, if the girth of the box is 30 inches?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Girth = 30 inches Girth =3 + 3 + x + x 30 = 6 +2x 2x=30-6=24 x=12 yardsticks are 1/4 in thick 12/.25=48 48 yardsticks could be packed in that box. I'm I right ? If you can check my work...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

27 yard sticks, not sure though If the box is 3 in wide and its girth is 30 in then its depth must be 12in. 1/4in thick means you'll fit 12 into 3in 3in wide means you'll get 4 in 12in so number of rulers = 12x4=48 A yardstick measures 1/4 by 3 by 36 inches. How many yard sticks will fit in a box 3 inches wide and 36 inches high, if the girth of the box is 30 inches?

What do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

help -_- ? anyone

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Esmy wait a moment lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

calculate volume of one yardstick and volume of box so number of yardsticks is volume of box divided by volume of each yardstick

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the work wrong D: ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try calculating from my method and match answers :P ..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you show me sorry :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay :|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

volume of stick = 1/4 * 3 * 36 = 27 cubic inches .. right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

volume of box = 3 * 30 * 36 = 3240.. ok ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so total yardsticks are 3240/27 = 120.. okay ? Unfortunately your answer was wrong. D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH I GET IT yeah yeah the width of the yardstick fits the 3 inch width of the box and The 36 inch length of the yardstick fits the height and 4 of the 1/4 inch yardsticks make a stack 1 inch high The number of 1/4 inch thick yardsticks that can be stacked up in 30 inches is 4 * 30 = 120

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got that at first but I didn't think it was the answer... :/
