Analogies and idioms are both widely used forms of literary devices. An analogy is a way of comparison. For example, the analogy "up is to down as to in is to out" is a comparison that shows that in is the opposite of out. An idiom is basically a saying that means something symbolic. The idiom "adding fuel to the fire" is to say that your response to something is only making it worse.
