is log base 5 = ln 5?

hero (hero):

No

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ln(x) = log base e (x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have a question that has a log5 there...so do i not change it to ln..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if its just "log" by itself usually it means log base 10 but i have seen cases where it means ln so i cant really help you there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is log5 (xe^x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\log_5 (xe^x) ?\] that? that means log base 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep, i think i have figured it out. seems like cannot directly change to ln but can apply the rule logb (x) = 1/ xln(b)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\log_{5}is \not=\ln5 \]
