Match the correct equation with the graph: x = 4 y = -3x + 4 y = 5/2x + 5 y = -2/5x + 2 y = -3/2x + 2

Hmm so let's start somewhere simple. See how the line is DECREASING as we move to the right? Soooo we know that this function will have a negative slope, its decreasing toward the right. y=mx+b Our equation is linear, in this form. Our slope is the m term. So we can immediately one of the options. Also, x=4 represents a line at the points x=4 that goes straight up and down. Our line doesn't go straight up and down, so we can eliminate that one also. b= our y-intercept (the place where the line crosses the y-axis) what point is the line crossing the y-axis at? :D

zepdrix (zepdrix):

We can immediately ignore* one of the options sorry typo in there..

is it one of these 2? y = -2/5x + 2 y = -3/2x + 2

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hmm it might be, those both have negative slope like we want. The two options you chose, are telling us that they cross the y-axis at y=2. Where does the graph look like it's crossing the y-axis in your picture. it looks more like its crossing at y=4 doesn't it? :D

yea it is that makes more sense lol ;D y = -3x + 4 this answer makes more sense ;D
