thanks
Just a second. I'll get back shortly
Lets write it as Height being a function of time. They told us that we can model it as a linear function, so lets do that! :) It will be of the form: y=mx+b So we have a function: h(t)=mt+b So they gave us some information. h(3)=17 h(5)=15 We'll write these as ordered pairs. (3,17) (5,15). We'll find the m value (slope of our line) by using this form. \[m=\frac{ y_2-y_1 }{ x_2-x_1 }\]Which for us will be written like this:\[m=\frac{ h(5)-h(3) }{ 5-3 }\]\[=\frac{ 15-17 }{ 5-3 }\]\[=\frac{ -2 }{ 2 }= -1\]
Ok the last part is asking what is h(8). Just plug 8 in for t :D
oh the 20, sorry lemme bcak up :D
\good work zepdrix
so you've gotten the formula this far: h(t)=-t+b So you can use some of your previous information to solve for b. Plug in the height and time (3,17), and solve for b.
So this will help me get 20
I don't understand
so plugging in 3 and 17 gives us this equation 17=-(3) + b b= 17 + 3 = 20 giving us an equation: h(t)=-t+20 Then for your last part, find h(8)
it is a line, an equation can be written in the form: y=mx+b If you'll see from my previous notes, we found the slope of the equation (the m value) to be -1.
never mind i understand
