What are the four groups of organic compounds?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids, and... DNA? The last part is composed of phosphate, nitrogen, and sugar groups.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm...I would have said nucleotides, but I suppose DNA works too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nucleotide is more accurate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, thanks! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@allythig organic compounds (key functional groups) are alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, and carboxylic acids. @badreferences was naming macronutrients and then through in DNA for whatever reason.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@CliffSedge You're probably right, but I can quote my college bio textbook where it calls these macronutrients "organic compounds".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Macronutrients are examples of organic compounds, but they do not name the groups of organic compounds. You could have also named methane, acetylene, benzene, etc. as examples, but those are also not groups.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That sounds good to me.
