I need help solving this and the steps !!!! 4x + 3y = -1 3x + y = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply the bottom equation by negative 3 in order to cancel out y values. so 3x + y = 3 turns into -9x -3y=-9, cancel out the y's leaving -9x= -9 meaning x= 1, then plug the x value into the first equation and solve for y

hero (hero):

Multiply the second equation by -3 then add them

You could also use substitution. Solve for y in the second equation and then input y in the first equation. Is this any help?
