I need help but i have to download the question but and i don't know how

OpenStudy (anonymous):

See the "attach" button below, use that! You will see it when you post a reply!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me with question please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will try!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you attach it? just askin, i dont see the file!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you see it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i do, are the measurements in ft and inches, for ex: 3ft and 2 inches right? (3' 2")?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you would change them to inches then calculate the area: For K-1 Learning Center: A = (3' 2")(30' 5") = ((38)(365))/12 = 1155.83 sq. ft

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its 32'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

32 ft, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

example 12'4=12.33 19'4=19.33

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i am really sorry, but i just need to know if the units are feet or in inches?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are in inches i think and i have to put them to feet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well if they are in inches, then calculate the area and then divide the asnwer for each learning center by 12 b/c 1ft = 12in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh? so they are in ft?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then first change them to inches, calculate the area for each center, then divide each answer by 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

understand what I am trying to say here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.555

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the k-1 center?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what am i doing is for example, 30' 5" = 30(12) + 5 = 365

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JakeV8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you talking about this problem???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, are you having trouble with getting the area of the K-1 learning center?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok :) The area is Length x Width, right? So, the drawing shows it as 32 feet on one side and 30 ft 5 inches on the other. 30 ft 5 inches, expressed in feet only (no inches) is 30 5/12 thirty and five-twelfths Are you planning to use a calculator to get the area? Or do you need to show the work and multiply out the fractions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im gonna use calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Area = 32 * 30 5/12 = 32 * 30.41666666667 = 973.3333 square feet. You need to round to the nearest whole square foot, so it would round to 973 square feet. (This is for the K-1 learning center)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand how to go from 30 feet 5 inches ...to.... 30 5/12 feet? And then from there to the decimal form, 30.4166667 feet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12 in=1 foot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, right :) so 5 inches is "5/12 of a foot" Just making sure... I wasn't sure where you got confused earlier...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because another person who was helping me with diffrent problem confuse me little bit. It was just like this one but little diffrent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now i have to find another learning center

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you get the dimensions of that other learning center? what are its length and width?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

100x60=160

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good try, but you picked the wrong room :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no worries :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

100x30=130

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're not thinking clearly :) ... it's multiplying, right? Not adding...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

L=100 W=30 right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, you're right and: 100 x 30 = 3000 square feet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area = length multiplied by width

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my bad sorry yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, to summarize so far: K-1 Learning Center = 973 square feet Other Learning Center = 3000 square feet Ready for part 3 of the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we gonna add

OpenStudy (anonymous):

973+3,000=3,973

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3,973/20=198.65

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right. but it's 3973 square feet, right? And the price of carpeting is measured as $20 per square yard, not per square feet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you fell for their trap :) But that's ok, you'll be ready next time. They changed the units on you... part 3 is in square yards, but the sum of the areas in the first 2 parts are in square feet, so we have to convert.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok lets convert them
