part 1 : (X,Y) 5 ordered pair which are a functions is (1,2) (2,3) (3,4) (4,5) (5,6). this is a function because Y = X +1 is satisfied by all pairs . hence this relation is a function

part 2 : (X,Y) 5 ordered pairs which are not function is (1,2) (1,3) (3,4) (4,3) (3,5) This is not a function as values in X have multiple values in Y. Prerequisite for functions is that for any value of X only 1 value of Y possible

But vice versa not true means1 value of Y can be attained by multiple values of X.

when you plot a relation , it is only a function if it passes the vertical line test { no x should have two values of y }
