What is electrical resistance?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

"electrical resistance"...if you play with the words... "resist electricity"...and then if you spice it up... "ability of an object to resist electricity" is that what you're asking?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

on a deeper concept though, electrical resistance is defined as the quotient of the voltage and the electricity \[R = \frac VI\]

OpenStudy (goformit100):

The electrical resistance of an electrical element is the opposition to the passage of an electric current through that element; the inverse quantity is electrical conductance, the ease at which an electric current passes. Electrical resistance shares some conceptual parallels with the mechanical notion of friction. The SI unit of electrical resistance is the ohm (Ω), while electrical conductance is measured in siemens (S).

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

usually people state texts *then* the sources....

OpenStudy (turingtest):

please post this in the physics section thanks
