copper (I) Oxide? not good with these

OpenStudy (aaronq):

copper is +1 as it states in the name oxygen is always -2 the charges have to add up since theres no charge on the molecule.. can you figure it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought it was Cusubscript2O but it was wrong.-2+2=0 so i don't see why it's wrong, do you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aaronq

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no it's right, unless it was copper (II) oxide and you didn't see the question correctly. double check that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the problem that the question says to write the formula for the ionic compund? instead of balance the equation?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no, try your formatting, maybe the subscript function didn't work. This isn't balancing equations, only balancing charges in reference to their oxidation states.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i figured out the whole time i was entering it in wrong haha thanks for affirming i had the right answer!

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Yep you were right, copper (I) oxide is \(Cu_2O\)
