OpenStudy (msmr):

If the anode is the positive side of a cathode tube, and the cathode is the negative, why is an anion a negative ion and a cation a positive ion? shouldn't it be the opposite?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

the anode is where the electrons from and site of oxidation, cathode is where reduction happens and thus electrons are draw to it. think about charges an electron is negatively charged so it will be repelled from the anode (another negative charge) and will be attracted to the cathode (which is positively charged).

OpenStudy (aaronq):

he anode is where the electrons flow from and site of oxidation, cathode is where reduction happens and thus electrons are drawn to it.*
