Bonnie buys a used car for $2500. She calculates her average monthly expenses for gas, insurance, and maintenance at $150 per month. The function f(x) = 150x + 2500 represents her total cost of owning the car for x number of months.

what is your question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A.x>=0 B.y>=0 C.x>=2500 D.y>=2500

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the range?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The range means the "possible values for the function f(x)"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, right away, f(x) is sort of like y... both tell you some rule on how to get either f(x) or y if you know the x. Range will be some statement about possible values for y. Can your total cost be $0? Even before you start paying monthly costs, you had to spend $2500 for the car...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im sorry. I meant to put C!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

careful... range is a statement about output values... needs to be y or f(x), not x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try again :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D!!!(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right :) C is trying to fool you :) Don't let it fool you!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answers A and B are seeing if you remembered about the initial $2500 cost, but again, A cannot possibly be right, since it is using "x" to talk about range. D is correct.
