why is -(-(-3))) is 3??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

two negatives multiplied together make a positive, when a positive is mulitplied by a negative then it equals a negative...that is why

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for example -3 * -3 = 9 * -3 = -27

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see the 27 is -27 because 2 negatives make a positive, then + * - = -

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i no that but what if it was (-(-(9))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that -9 would turn to positive 9 because its two negatives multiplied together, do you understand at all?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i actually don't lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I showed you already there is no other ways to explain it, - * - = + + * - = -

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a negative times a negative gives you a postive, then when you add another negative, you get an over all negative answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

toni doesn't understand it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is |-(4)|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its just 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now if the negative was on the outisde of the absolute value then it would be -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you give me a problem like that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1349308869940:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its -3 you forgot the negative since its on the outside

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if there was a problem with 4 negatives signs and 5 it would be 5 since a negative + a negative is a positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

draw it out and ill show you
