Translate the following phrases into algebraic expressions. Explain, in complete sentences, the difference between the two. (3 points) twice the sum of x and y the sum of twice x and y
2(x+y) and 2(x+y), don't know if you put it twice on accident or a part of the acuall questin.
so is tht what the answer is? for both
is it supposed to be twice or not?
no just once
then the answer is: \[2(x+y)\]
i got that...then i have 2x+y
no, then it would be like this: \[2(x+y)\] you would do the parenthesis first: \[2(xy)\] then you would multiply them, thus the final answer is:\[(2xy)\]
so 2(x+y) for the first part and then (2xy) for the second part?
yes. that would work i was showing you how to accually solve something like this.
k... then what would i do for the complete sentences?
?
okay, so i reread the questinon, the first one, like you said was 2xy, while twice the sum of x and y would be:2(x)+2(y)=4xy i think...
