To be a function, there can be only a single value of y (or whatever the output variable is) for each value of x (or whatever the input variable is).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need both 1 and 2, and i dont know how to do this....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the second one, take the points that are clear on the graph (0,5), (1,0), (3,-4), and (5,0) and subtract 3 from all the x-coordinates.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mark_o. that will not cause it to not be a function since there isn't two different outputs for the same input.

These are definitely "paper problems". Whch means they are going to e written out... how about this... since i cant do this, who ever gives me the anwser, I will reward with a medal and what ever else you want

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't do this for the prizes. I think you have enough information to develop the answers on your own. Think about what I said, and try it yourself.

on 2) .on the table. when y=0, x=1 ,x=5 which means (x-1)(x-5)=y.multiplying these factored numbers x^2 -x-5x+5=y x^2-6x+5 =y this is the eq of parabola note also that when x=0,y=5 now when x=-3 that is 3 units to the left (-3)^2 -6*(-3) +5=32 ans but if you wanted 3 units to the right that is x=3 (3)^2 -6*(3) +5= -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can use the formula y= x^2-6x+5 to fill out the table also

OpenStudy (anonymous):

input means your x, and your output is y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont get t it

you might be wanting a different kind of website for what you want done here.
