. √5x - 4 = 6

I'm assuming your problem is sqrt(5x) - 4 = 6 If so, then you want to add 4 to both sides to get the square root by itself. This yields sqrt(5x) = 10 A square root is synonymous to a term raised to the power of (1/2) What you have to do now is to raise both sides of the equation to the power of 2. sqrt(5x)^2 = 10^2 similarly [(5x)^(1/2)]^2 = 10^2 where sqrt(5x) is written as(5x)^(1/2) this yields 5x = 100 You then solve for x by dividing both sides of the equation by 5, which yields x = 20
