a=b+c-2 a=c-d+9 a=b-d+11 based on the system of equations above, what is the value of a? (a) 2 (b) 9 (C) 10 (d) 11 (e) 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cheating for what? I don't know how to do this question so I'm posting. And you spelled "site" wrong.

OpenStudy (eyust707):

Here we have 3 equations and 4 unknowns. I believe this problem is indeterminate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i never said I want a straight answer. Do you have something against me? Why are you picking on me?

OpenStudy (eyust707):

Are you sure you typed it in correctly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep I did. this problem is from a sat practice book.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's the whole problem. What happens if the person comes up with a different answer other than the choices?

OpenStudy (eyust707):

The best I can do is give you a in terms of either b, c or d.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I tried that but it doesn't work out for some reason.

OpenStudy (eyust707):

@lgbasallote any ideas?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

@trenvilla 's good....

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

anyway...what did you try @eyust707 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ tenvilla I wasn't even talking to you

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

@trenvilla does not like Asians :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

agree

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i think you failed to notice there are only 3 unknowns here since they're all equal to a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jeez people are so touchy these days @sussycake there are more variables than equations here, so either there is a typo, one equation is missing, or the problem is posed incorrectly you can solve for one variable in terms of others, but you cannot assign a number to the variables

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when did people here get so uptight about the questions. take a pill

OpenStudy (sasogeek):

the thread is ridiculous! facepalm.sigh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

calm the math down, let's just help each other out, bros.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, I got a=0, but that's obviously not right.
