OpenStudy (konradzuse):

The form of the relationship in the following scatterplot might best be described as A. negative. B. curved. C. extrapolated. D. clustered.

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

I assume A negative... Not sure what C means, but it could be B "curved" but I don't think that's a relationship...

OpenStudy (wach):

I think you may be right.

OpenStudy (eyust707):

Extrapolated means you analyzed the data and calculated where the curve would continue to past the recorded data.

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

Thanks eyust... WOuld A be correct then? :)

OpenStudy (eyust707):

I would say B based on this definition: "Curvilinear: A curved relationship is called curvilinear, because it approximates a curved line."

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

Well they say relationship so that's why I picked A, though it is a curve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've never heard "curved" used to describe a relation either, but that might be right if "negative" is reserved for straight-line correlation only.

OpenStudy (eyust707):

"In statistics, a relationship between two variables is negative if the slope in a corresponding graph is negative"

OpenStudy (eyust707):

I would say both. lol

OpenStudy (eyust707):

But Cliffsedge has a point... curved isn't a very common description.

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

yeah that's why I assumed negative :P. It deff is both, but curved isn't a relationship imo. It's the shape of it :).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here's my go-to site for stats: http://stattrek.com/statistics/charts/scatterplot.aspx?Tutorial=Stat I'd say "negative" as well because the standard term is "non-linear" not "curved."

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

:)
