Which of these contributed to the Union victory in the Civil War? A blockade of Southern ports, alliances with France and Britain, The outbreak of slave rebellions in the South, or Virginia's failure to secede from the Union.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The American Civil War could have swung in either direction, but there were many key factors & advantages that led the Union to claim victory. Some of these advantages included industrial and military superiority, better infrastructure, a larger population, and a centralized, strong Federal government. Some other advantages were superior industrial capabilities, more efficient logistical support, greater naval power, and a largely lopsided population in favor of the Union.

I thought it was a blockade of Southern ports, since that would have inabled them to any sources of help of beating the union.

You are correct. The Union set up a Naval blockade to stop the crappy amount of supplies and resources the South was actually getting. That is kind of a trick question because the British helped the Union set this up so it could have been either of those. Virginia's failure to secede from the Union didn't have much to do with it other than the fact it was the Union's launch pad for the entire war. #1 is the answer.

Thanks, i didn't know if it was right or not.
