What part does an airplane play in the spreading of diseases?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, first off, people on airplanes are often tightly packed together. If we have one person who is sick, with something that could be spread through the air, s/he could easily infect the people who are sitting close by. Airplanes carry people who may be getting off the plane at different stops. If an airplane has people who are sick, and it drops those people off at different places, then those people are gonna make even more people sick, at those different places. ~~~~~~~~~ It might be a bit confusing, so let me draw a small example of what I'm talking about: 1. You and I are getting on the same plane. 2. We both sit next to a guy who has a highly contagious disease. 3. The sick guy spreads his germs to us, through the air, and gets us both sick. 4. The plane stops at Atlanta, Georgia, where you get off. So now, since you're sick, you can spread the disease to other people in Atlanta. 5. I get on another plane that's going from Atlanta, to Los Angeles. 6. Since I'm sick now, I can spread the disease to more people, on the new airplane that I am on now. 7. When I get to Los Angeles, I can get even more people sick there!
