What are the different types of 'reasons' that go into a proof and what does each one mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe that they are the following: Symmetric Property of Equality Subtraction Property of Equality Division Property of Equality Reflexive Property of Equality Substitution Property of Equality and Transitive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you tell me what they mean please? I just dont know what the symmetric, reflexive, and transitive mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry there are nine of them. I didn't state all of them. Addition, Multiplication, and Distribution are the other ones that I didn't state.

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

shoot i know this but give me a min. cant think right now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The transitive property has three terms. If a = b, and b = c, then a =c. They are equal to the same thing. It has be exactly in that order, or else its substitution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay :) @dmezzullo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Reflexive Property: just reverse the order across the equals sign; it acts kind of like a mirror. I am learning them myself right now, so I'm not too sure about the Reflexive Property and symmetric. I don't really know the difference yet.

Thanks! @Fang02

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem! :) I'm happy I could help. ^^

Good luck with your schoolwork!

You too!

Thanks!
