OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is "L"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[H = \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{ 2 } \times L\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

L is the length of a side of a hexagon. H is the "radius"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you want the length of each side. so you can work out the total area. Area will be \[Area = 2 AreaOfEnd + 6AreaOfSide\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but you dont know the distance to the middle, H, of the prism. so were trying to eliminate that, and obtain an expression for area, which you do know, in terms of L for side length

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get it are of side in my understanding is 15 and then there is a bunch of 5's so i times that by 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, i didnt open the attachement

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes they have given you the side length of 5 for free.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so just use the otherformula i gave

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Area = 2 AreaOfEnd + 6AreaOfSide

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area of end is what 65?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so to get area of side 15 x 6 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1349983265621:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your sides have the dimentions of 15 length, and 5 height

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area of rectangle = length x height

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have 6 rectangles(squares) in total, so you have 6(length x height)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so what must i do with the base = to 65

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wel you have the base and the top, they are both the same area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so add that area onto the area of all the sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area = 6(length x height) + 2base

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i think i got it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great :)
