Help solving: In comment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{8x + 5} = 3\sqrt{x}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square both sides to rid of the square roots

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be: 64x + 25 = 9 + x^2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no 8x + 5 has a square root over it so think of it like a force field and you can only rid of it with a square thus depleting both, but doing no harm to the 8x + 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same with the X on the other side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be 8x + 5 = 9x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup, then combine likes terms and presto

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks! Do you think you could help me with one more? Not sure whatg to do with thesee, why do they have the lines in front of them?: \[|x+2| = 3\]
