can (19x+18)/(x+1) be simplified?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no it cannot, but you can use polynomial long division to divide that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 19x + 18 }{ x + 1 }\] and no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

polynomial long division? how so?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

has your class learned about it yet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, i put that answer and it didn't accept it. thats what i got after doing this problem... (9x-13)/(x+1) + (9x+31)/(x+1)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no you should get something in the form of q(x) + r(x)/(x+1) where q(x) is some polynomial function and r(x) some other polynomial function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so do i take out 18? i don't get it
