3 x 4 1/4

So, do you know the "trick" for multiplying mixed numbers? Ie, the 4 1/4 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think yu have to divide 1 by 4 & add that to 4 then multiply that by 3.... But I have a huge feeling im wrong D; Its been a lsong time since I did these, good luck.!

all i need is the answer...

Multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator. In this instance, it would be 4 times 4 plus 1, which equals 5. You're basically taking a fourth and multiplying it four times. So your answer is going to be in terms of fourths. So have 5 fourths. So 5/4. Now, you still have that 3 to deal with. You're multiplying the rest of the problem by the 3. When multiplying fractions, all you have to do is multiply the numerators by the numerators and the denominators by the denominators. 3 is really 3/1. We've already got the 5/4. So we just multiply them together, giving us 15/4. This is because 3 times 5 goes over 1 times 4.

Learn how to solve it.... I just told yu how I think its solved....
