Hartnn pls

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand how I would do this... The title of your Venn diagram is your universal set. Give your universal set a name and description. Circle A is set A, and circle B is set B. Find A B and explain what that number represents. Find A B and explain what that number represents. Find A′ and B′and explain what that number represents. Which word would you use to describe the value of v in the Venn diagram: subset, union, intersection, complement, or cross multiplication product? Explain your answer in complete sentences.

hartnn (hartnn):

which part, u need help with ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you could just walk me through it, I would appreciate it. I'll give you 50 medals for lending me a hand with it.

hartnn (hartnn):

Let U be the universal set which represents People who enjoy candy. now A is the set of people who enjoy cruncy candy. do u know how to find that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would find what A and B have in common?

hartnn (hartnn):

for no. of ppl who enjoy crunchy candy , you will count no of people in circle A whats the total in circle A ?

hartnn (hartnn):

so it will be 7+3 = 10 got this ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Got it. So that's AUB?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the Union is just all in a certain field?

hartnn (hartnn):

no, not AUB

hartnn (hartnn):

it would be the sum of people who only like crunchy candy + people who like both

hartnn (hartnn):

because ppl who like both also like crunchy candy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I get it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find A U B and explain what that number represents. Find A (Upside down U) B and explain what that number represents. Find A′ and B′and explain what that number represents. Which word would you use to describe the value of v in the Venn diagram: subset, union, intersection, complement, or cross multiplication product? Explain your answer in complete sentences. That is what it says xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The union of A and B is just A + the middle?

hartnn (hartnn):

oh, wait, we found B actually chewy ---> B = 7+3 = 10

hartnn (hartnn):

no u want union of A and B then use the formula : n(A U B) = n(A)+n(B)-n(A and B) where we found n(B) = 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so wait, what is A U B saying?

hartnn (hartnn):

AUB says people who like crunchy candy OR chewy candy

hartnn (hartnn):

A and B read as A intersection B says people who like Crunchy candy AND chewy candy, which is givn as 3, the common area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Find A U B and explain what that number represents." This is saying people who like both Chewy and Crunchy, which is 3?

hartnn (hartnn):

i clearly mentioned AUB is people who like crunchy candy OR chewy candy and thats not 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, okay. so it's 13? XD

hartnn (hartnn):

A (Upside down U) B = A and B = 3 your 2nd part

hartnn (hartnn):

13 ? how did u get 13 ?

hartnn (hartnn):

"Find A upside down U B and explain what that number represents." This is saying people who like both Chewy and Crunchy, which is 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohlawd I'm stupid. 7 + 3 = 10

hartnn (hartnn):

ok, to find AUB , u'll need A and B we got B=10, did u get how ? (7+3) now we also need to find A can u find A now ?

hartnn (hartnn):

to find AUB , u'll need A,B,(A and B )

hartnn (hartnn):

u have B=10, A and B =3 , now u just need A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will try to find A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would find A by elimination common terms in both A and B, right?

hartnn (hartnn):

it will be number of ppl who ONLY like crunchy + no. of ppl who like both

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A = 7 AUB = 10 B = 2 :)?

hartnn (hartnn):

nopes, i would remind u that we are taking A as right side circle number of ppl who ONLY like crunchy(2) + no. of ppl who like both(3) so A = 2+3 = 5

hartnn (hartnn):

got that ^ ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought the left side was A, and the right side was B?

hartnn (hartnn):

we can take it that way also, if u are comfortable with that . A is the set of people who enjoy chewy candy. then A =10 and B = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes! A = 10 B = 5 A U B = ?

hartnn (hartnn):

AUB = A+B-A and B = 10 + 5 - 3 = 12 got this ?

hartnn (hartnn):

and this represents people who like crunchy candy OR chewy candy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you go in depth so I can really understand it in detail?

hartnn (hartnn):

let me try
