What is the slope of the line passing through the point (3, −4) and perpendicular to the line y = 3x + 5? Write your answer as a fraction.

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

I think this problem might have given you some useless info. :) If you know the slope of one line, it's very easy to find the slope of a line perpendicular to it. (do you know how to do this?)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because the slope multiplication is always come -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since it's perpendicular, the slope will be -1/3 :) Negative reciprocal = perpendicular

thank you!! :)
