a rectangular solid that is 4 cm by 6 cm by 8 cm is painted on all six faces.then the solid is cut into cubes that measure 2cm on each side. how many of these cubes have only one face painted?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you can do it by steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can almost jump right to the answer. I can't give you the answer as I'm not allowed to, nor would you learn that way, but I can tell you how to conceptualize the problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you look at a cross section of the 4 x 6 as it goes to eight, you'll be able to see in each cross-section (disregarding the ends) how many have one face painted.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In each cross-section, there are two layers, a top and bottom, and looked at in the other direction, there is one "in the middle".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: concentrate on those "middle" pieces without taking into account the "ends" as you go from 1 to 8.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you visualize (or draw on paper) each 4 x 6 cross-section? It is 2 blocks by 3 blocks.

OpenStudy (yash2651995):

draw the isometric view ( i guess that is the term for the 3d view showing front top and side faces..) that helps to visualize it!!
