How are moderators different from ambassadors?

Moderators issue warnings, close content, ban, etc.

Ambassadors welcome new members and do some of the dirty work.

Ambassadors are basically dogs that act on command.

Compassionate that is an awful thing to say. Ambassadors are not "dogs that act on command", ambassadors are here to welcome new users.

In the words of Owlfred:

"Ambassadors reach out to new users in chat, their first questions, and via private messages to welcome them to the site. They explain the norms of our community, introduce the moderators and the administrators, and act as a support for new users. Each website has its own culture, and OpenStudy is no different. Ambassadors help ease that awkward transition from knowing no one at the party to making friends. They explain where the chat is, and point them towards users they might find helpful."

On the other hand moderators are here to basically help keep the peace, remove any spam content and make sure users adhere to the code of conduct - which indeed means we have the ability to ban, warn etc.

Trance, I was under the impression that Ambassadors did what mods told them to do.

In that context they would be, "Mod dogs."

Not really, we don't really tell them what to do.. they are free spirits of awesome! :D
