what is 11+8m=3m+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you need to get all the "m" terms on one side and the numbers on the other... The only rule is you have to do the same thing to both sides whenever you do anything. 11 + 8m = 3m +1 subtract 3m from both sides... 11 + 8m - 3m = 3m - 3m + 1

Then you can simplify that last expression. Next, you will need to get all the numbers on the right side... try subtracting 11 from both sides. Finally, you will have all the m's on the left and all the plain numbers on the right, and you can solve for m.

so the answer is 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

close... I got... 11 + 8m - 3m = 3m - 3m + 1 11 + 5m = 1 Then subtract 11 from both sides: 11 -11 + 5m = 1 - 11 5m = -10 m = -2 I think you just mixed up the positive and negative on the right side. But you were close :)

oh haha yea i forgot to put the negative one! thankyou i totally get it now.
