combine like terms...

Answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nah

this is one of the easiest simplification questions i've ever seen, and you just refuse to to do it? if you would like i can inform you on how to simplify with variables, but i'm not giving you the answer.

You can only subtract the terms with the same symbol after the number, in this case, S and R. So you have 8s, and 1s. Subtract one from the other. Then do the same with the remaining terms in the equation.

I agree with @gaara438125 , you need to be able to do this on your own.

i know but its confusing me with the terms

you can only multiply, subtract, add, etc the numbers with the same letter after it. If it has a different letter, it cant work with it. So 2s+2r would have to be just that. They can't work together because they are different. 2s+2s, however, would equal 4s. Keep in mind that the "s" and "r" represent unknown variables.

S(8 -1) -R(5 + 6) does that look better?
