OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do prime factorization on a negative number? ex: -48, 108

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-48 and 108 to clarify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just put the - in the front of the factorization for a positive number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so u treat it as if it was a positive? and then add the negative later... im not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its prime factorization not factoring if thats what you mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummm ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kinda confused still

OpenStudy (anonymous):

someone help please(:

OpenStudy (cruffo):

Are you able to find the prime factorization of 48?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i know how to do the positive 48 but how do you do a negative?(:

OpenStudy (cruffo):

It's the same as with positive numbers. You just have the extra -1 in the factorization.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

the only extra factor is -1

OpenStudy (cruffo):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u show me with a factor tree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to prime factorize a positive number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, but not negative. can u explain

OpenStudy (cruffo):

see pic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's the same for negative, just that -x = -1 * x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
