\[ \tan^2\theta\cos^2\theta+\cot^2\theta\sin^2\theta = \frac{\sin^2\theta}{\cos^2\theta}\cos^2\theta+\frac{\cos^2\theta}{\sin^2\theta}\sin^2\theta=\sin^2\theta+\cos^2\theta=1. \] You merely need to rewrite tan^2 and cot^2 in terms of cos^2 and sin^2, then you may cancel out the denominators and you're left with sin^2 theta + cos^2 theta, which is 1 by the Pythagorean identity.
