simplify y(x-2)-(x-2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@some1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first you should deal with that y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so maybe (yx-2y)-(x-2) ??

OpenStudy (p0sitr0n):

yx-2y-x+2 yx-x-2y+2 x(y-1)-2(y-1) (x-2)(y-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distribute the y, so: xy-2y-(x-2) since the minus is on the outside of x-2, that means the negative must be distributed to the x AND the -2. so: xy-2y-x+2. Since there are no like terms, that is your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you can factor that out into: x(y-1)-2(y-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then take the two outer parts, and put them together, because y-1 is a common quantity. so: (x-2)(y-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wtf. switch the above two comments, it'll make more sense. something random happened.

AHHH I UNDERSTAND NOW! THANKS GUYS :)
