A line has slope –1/5. Through which two points could this line pass? (12, 13), (17, 10) (16, 15), (13, 10) (0, 7), (3, 10) (11, 13), (8, 18)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it a,b,c,or d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all i need is a letter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(y _{1} - y _{2}) / (x _{1} - x _{2}) = m = slope.\] We can't just give out an answer. We have to guide you to figuring out the answer by giving you help, formulas., etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have no idea of what you just did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

np. y1 is just the y-coordinate of a chosen point, just as x1 is the x-coordinate of that same point where the points are all of the form (x,y). All of your points are given in that form, so first start by recognizing and applying the form. y2 and x2 are just the second point. Plug these points in to my equation to get the slope. Compare slopes. That's all there is to it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, to answer THIS particular problem, you have to try each set of points in that formula until you get one set that gives the correct slope.

An additional thing to help you. Are you sure you typed in the question correctly? Because, it doesn't look like any of your selections is going to work. Perhaps there is a typo somewhere?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is negative 1 5ths

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, but how about the points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The four sets of 2 points each. Each of the 4 lines. There has to be a typo somewhere.
