List three clues that suggest a chemical change is taking place, and provide an example for each.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please please please help i dont get this

OpenStudy (aaronq):

think of characteristics of chemical reactions... e.g. what happens if you burn something, what do you see?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

smoke?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you explain what a chemical can be?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

okay do you see light? that signals a release of energy..

OpenStudy (aaronq):

do you feel the release of heat? thats chemical bonds breaking

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The process of a solid changing directly into a gas is called what

OpenStudy (aaronq):

sublimation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In nature Hydrogen does not "hang around" just as a Hydrogen atom, it combines with another Hydragon atom to form H2. H2 is an example of a what A. Compound B. Molecule C. Isotope D. Mixture

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it a compound

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry i ment to close the last Q but do you know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have three more Q's if you can answer them

OpenStudy (aaronq):

it would be considered a molecule

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what

OpenStudy (aaronq):

suree, shoot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok first one go up

OpenStudy (aaronq):

hydrogen gas H2 is a molecule

OpenStudy (aaronq):

although it can also be considered a compound

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so can you think of what one it would be?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

i would say molecule

OpenStudy (aaronq):

technically it's a molecular compound haha so what question is bogus

OpenStudy (aaronq):

that*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so what do i tell my teacher?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

haha tell him/her that question is bogus lol but seriously, they're synonyms in chemistry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok if he yells at me i can blame you hahaha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jk so here is my next Q

OpenStudy (aaronq):

hahaha sure. lol ok shoot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following is an example of a homogenous mixture? A. Lucky Charms in Milk B. Chicken noodle soup C. Air D. All of the above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now this one i really dont know i missed this class

OpenStudy (aaronq):

a homogeneous mixture is where there is one phase.. so you can't tell the difference between one substance and another...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so A or no?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

can you tell the difference between the milk and the cereal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (aaronq):

so thats not homogeneous because in homogeneous subtances you can't tell the diff

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so A?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

LOL nooo

OpenStudy (aaronq):

if you can see the 2 substances separately then it's a HETEROgenous mixture

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i am sorry but you lost me

OpenStudy (aaronq):

okay, a homogeneous substance is one where there is ONE phase, meaning you can't tell the difference between the parts that make it up. e.g. if you dissolve salt in water, you can't tell it's there, so it's homogeneous

OpenStudy (aaronq):

now if you have cereal and milk, will you be able to tell that theres milk in the cereal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok so what would it be then?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

it's called "heterogeneous" if you can tell that theres more than one subtance in latin: homo = same hetero = different

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh that helps alot

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yeah, mostly all of the sciences have greek or latin terminology

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok cool so now what would the answer be? then only two more Q's then i am doneif you rup for it

OpenStudy (aaronq):

so in which one of these mixtures can you not tell them apart? A. Lucky Charms in Milk B. Chicken noodle soup C. Air D. All of the above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c and b i think

OpenStudy (aaronq):

in chicken noodle soup, won't you see the noodles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yes but you cant see air so is this a joke also?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh never mind its c i did not read the Q so i get it now thanks

OpenStudy (aaronq):

haha nope, air is a homogeneous mixture because (yeah while it might be colourless) there is a mixture of gases which you can't tell apart. and actually O2 is blue, why do you think the sky is blue?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

LOL you didn' read the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just forgot it lol

OpenStudy (aaronq):

how old are you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ask that again and i call the cops but i am in 12th grade

OpenStudy (aaronq):

what, relax dude

OpenStudy (aaronq):
